* Andreas and his wife, Triencke, lived in Fockbek, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. They are the earliest in the Blaase
line that have been identified thus far. Records show that they had at least two children, sons Wessel and Johann.
The Blaase name has been found with several different spellings in old German records. They were all likely
pronounced the same way, and written down by recordkeepers as they sounded. Thus, we find Blaase, Blase, Blaas,
Bloss, Blouce, Blaß, and others. The name Blaß is spelled with a German character called an "Estet", which is usually
written as "ss". This can also be seen in variations of the popular Blaase given name of Wesley, which in early
generations was written as Weshel, Wessel, Weßel, etc.
In the years 1761-1763, the King of Denmark, who was also the sovereign of the duchy of Schleswig, invited settlers
from the south of Germany to inhabit what was then a little occupied area of middle Schleswig, which was under Danish
control at that time. The land was mainly heath and bogs. Many of these settlers, called Kolonisten (colonists), came
from the area of Baden-Württemberg, and established small colonies (kolonien), such as Königsberg, the home of our
Blaase ancestors.
